Talent Shows in India...Wonderful opportunity for the talented!

'Indian Idol', 'Sa re ga ma pa' , 'Boogie Woogie' and many other talent search ventures in the Indian TV world need to be appreciated! Being in the US and having the opportunity to watch these shows, gives me and many other folks like myself, a great sense of pride and satisfaction. It seems to me that these days there are numerous avenues made available to the talented youngsters in India to show case their abilities and live their dreams!

We NRI's have innumerable conversations about the ridiculousness (if that's really a word) of the extent of 'copying' Indian TV does of the Western shows, but never stop to think, how is that a bad thing- young folks like Amit Paul (my favorite from Indian Idol), Prashant Tamman, Emmon Chakraborty and many others like them would've never gotten the opportunity to present their talent in front of millions, they would've never gotten to come out of their small worlds and become confident singers and performers, have a fan following and meet with the crème de la crème of Bollywood!
I would love to see an increase in such talent search type shows in India, since there is so much talent that still needs to be tapped upon.

Oh, I forgot to mention I absolutely hate the copy of Deal no Deal and Dancing with the stars!!

Specially for the Recruiters!

Recruiting is all I have on my mind these days! With 25 open positions at work, and managers and directors breathing down my throat, I seek for new and innovative ways to find and source people for these positions. One of the things that always comes to my rescue is employee referrals!

I think employee referral is one of the most important and cost effective method of recruiting, however, sometimes it gets overlooked by a lot of recruiters and managers and does not get as much importance or coverage as the sign on bonuses, networking, or job postings! A few of the advantages of ER are:

  • It is the least costly method of recruiting- does not require any subscription, posting cost, etc. All it needs is aware and happy employees willing to recommend the company to their family and friends and a couple hundred dollars in referral incentives! and voila, you have a great candidate ready to be interviewed!!!

  • Takes lesser time to fill the positions- existing employee sends you the referral, probably gives you a completed application, best time to reach the candidate and a synopsis of their work history, work ethic, etc. What else does a recruiter need!

  • Gives you an opportunity to recognize and strengthen your relationship with your existing employees-appreciate them, thank them and recognize them for their referral and faith in the company.

  • Lower turn over- study suggests candidates that are referred by an existing employee stay longer with the company than a non-referred employee---therefore, helping out with the company's retention startegy as well.

So, all the recruiters out there, get out of your cabins and speak to your top performers and get yourself some referrals!!!

Yeah! finally, i am a registered blogger!! Ironic, since i was never into writing my thoughts. The one time my best friend and i promised to have a diary and note our daily thoughts, i had one entry...helllo diary, i am tired, will see you tomorrow!

Today, for some reason i felt like blogging. How do people come up with blogs, what is a good topic to blog? is the blog for someone else, or for you? if for someone else, what would interest people to read a blog? if for you, then should i write everything i think? or edit my thoughts?

Anyways, when i come up with some interesting blogging topic, i will revisit the blogger, till then adios!!
